Launches

Uberlife, a startup based in the UK, launched this week just as the SXSW festivities are beginning. The company is hoping to be one of the new hot startups that people remember from the show.

WebProNews spoke with Sanchita Saha, uberlife’s CEO and Founder, who told us that the service is designed to extend online connections into the real world. She explained that it is different from services such as Foursquare since it goes beyond the basic check in.

Saha said the service is intention-based, which means users create “hangouts” around where they are going to be. These hangouts are public, so that others can join as well.

Bands are already taking advantage of the platform to connect with both their peers and fans. Saha told us that businesses are also using the service to build better relationships with their customers.

Will uberlife be the next hot startup to take off at SXSW? What do you think?

Today, popular online video service Twitvid released an open social video network as well as a newly designed website. Through these changes, the user experience becomes much more personalized. In addition, this release allows for more discovering, sharing, and discussing of video content.

Mo Al Adham, the company’s CEO and Founder, calls the changes a “natural progression” of the current service. Now, not only can users share raw video, but they can also share videos from other services, such as YouTube.

The social network aspect gives users the ability to obtain followers on their Twitvid profile. Adham told us that this element encourages better engagement and sharing.

“When you watch videos on Twitvid, we want you to watch videos with other people,” he said. “We want you to feel like there’s a community around you with video.”

He went on to say that Twitvid plans to expand to more platforms going forward.

Feeling rather curious about top influencers on a topic of your choice? Klout has your back as it introduces its Topics beta page today, September 15. As a single number, the Klout score is very useful in ranking overall influence and making a quick judgement. There’s also drawbacks to eye-balling a single number, which Klout intends to conquer with the Topics page. A user is more than than just a 1-100 rating.

The Topics page’s intention is to provide greater context. Klout presents top influencers regardless of their overall score. Pages will analyze topical content, top +K recipients and intends to still add further trends and related content in the near future. Those sneaky enough to opt into the Topic Page perk last month can now access the preview, but if you’re still waiting, Klout is letting more and more people in every day. FYI- they’ve passed on the nugget of wisdom that it really doesn’t hurt to tweet…

Feedback has been positive thus far and Klout thinks this introduction will inspire new users and greater interaction between influencers.

In an attempt to bring some of his own favorite bits to the interwebs, comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld has launched jerryseinfeld.com.

The site, which went live this morning, is set up in an interesting way. Each day three video clips will be posted and removed in 24 hours. Three new clips will then appear. This carousel approach prevents binging on clips at all one time, and promotes the return of fans daily to see something new.

Today, the three inaugural clips are “The Fattest Man in the World” from Johnny Carson in 1981, “Do the Horse Know They’re Racing” from a 1998 HBO special, and “No Room in the Newspaper” from Carson in 1990.

Tomorrow’s clips will be all about horses, with “A Horse Shaped Like a Hammock,” “Horse Rocket Power,” and “A Horse Named Crazy Glue.”

On the site, Seinfeld says that the point of this is to hopefully encourage young kids interested in comedy to get in on the “silliness.”

When I was ten years old, I started watching stand up comedians on TV. I fell in love with them and I’m just as fascinated with stand up comedy today. When I started doing TV, I saved every appearance on every show I did. I thought it might be fun to go through all of it and pick out three bits each day that still amuse me for some reason or another. I’ve also included stuff I’m doing now, and I’ll be adding new stuff as I go. Somewhere out there are ten year olds just waiting to get hooked on this strange pursuit. This is for them. I’m just hoping somehow it will keep this silliness going.

Although there are many clips of Seinfeld on YouTube, many are of terrible quality. Plus I’m sure he has some clips in his personal archive that haven’t found their way on the internet yet.

This isn’t the only internet comedy news of the week – on Wednesday Pandora announced it was adding 10,000 clips from over 700 comedians to it’s recommendation engine.
